yes, i agree..i'm not embarressed to say, yes, every now and again i do get drunk..but only on occasions.people may say the same for smoking.(by the way, i dont smoke)i dont buy beer and wine for the sake of it. for birthdays, christening, weddings maybe. not every sat, sunday, monday, tuesday, wednesday and friday. i do know some people who do this. only have one day a week that you dont drink.i meen OVER THE TOP!i feel sometimes people have lets say every friday where they go up the pub for a drink with there friends. which i definataly understand. especialy if they work hard. my mate, Dave, does this. he is very, very hard working.sometimes i do the same with him. so as you can see i feel drinking is saying well done, or just celebrating. i feel that drinking for the sake of getting drunk is uncalled for but if you have a reason..who cares! just have fun!

Much agreed. My father owned a respectable liquor store until I was 10 years old and I have fond memories of pricing wine bottles at 8, 9, and 10. Since every few weeks or so, I would go into my parents' store and be surrounded by so much alcohol (mostly wine and some beer), but not in the context in which people were drinking or in a context of abuse, there was no forbidden fruit and even now I rarely drink, besides my passion for Israeli wine. It was actually quite funny - I brought home some beer several months ago and my wife was like 'What's up with that?' since I really don't drink besides my wine obsession -- which is NOT about getting drunk!

I truly believe this is because of growing up with my father owning a liquor store and extended family having a history in the wine biz (my grandfather and uncle also owned liquor stores, although before I was born) so alcohol was never this forbidden fruit. .... if anything it was something boring that I associated with my parents.
